Job summary
The Machinist operates, maintains, and repairs precision machine tools and mechanical equipment used in textile
manufacturing. S/he fabricates, modifies, and repairs parts with high accuracy, supporting machine reliability,
process efficiency, and adherence to quality, safety, and environmental standards.
Key roles and responsibilities
• Machining & Fabrication
– Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and reference samples to determine machining
requirements.
– Measure and mark raw materials accurately for turning, milling, shaping, or drilling.
– Operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, shapers, and drilling machines to produce precision parts.
– Fabricate and assemble machine components to required tolerances and surface finishes.
– Modify worn parts or fabricate replacements to restore machine functionality.
• Quality & Precision Control
– Calculate dimensions and tolerances using micrometers, vernier calipers, and other precision
instruments.
– Inspect machined parts during and after processing to confirm compliance with specifications.
– Identify and correct machining errors or deviations immediately.
– Maintain calibration and care of measurement instruments.
– Adhere to ISO 9001 (Quality Management) standards for accuracy, consistency, and traceability.
• Machine Setup & Operation
– Select appropriate tools, cutting speeds, and feeds based on material type and job specification.
– Set up, align, and calibrate machines to ensure dimensional accuracy.
– Monitor equipment performance and make necessary adjustments for optimal output.
– Program or assist in programming computer-controlled machines (CNC) where applicable.
– Maintain proper lubrication and cleanliness of machine tools.
• Safety, QHSE & Maintenance
– Comply with Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) regulations in all workshop operations.
– Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when operating machinery or handling materials.
– Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workshop following 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine,
Standardise, Sustain).
– Conduct routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs on workshop machinery.
– Report unsafe conditions, tool defects, or accidents immediately to the supervisor.
– Support environmental and waste reduction programs in line with ISO 14001 (Environmental
Management).
• Continuous Improvement & Collaboration
– Report recurring faults, inefficiencies, or equipment wear trends and recommend corrective actions.
– Participate in root cause analysis, preventive maintenance planning, and process improvement
discussions.
– Collaborate with welders, electricians, and mechanical engineers to support machine assembly and
repairs.
– Engage in skill enhancement programs and stay updated on emerging machining technologies.
– Contribute to cost-saving, material optimisation, and operational improvement initiatives.
• Compliance with Vistari’s Corporate Systems
– Apply the highest standards of internal controls and risk management practices and behaviours and
embed a positive risk and control culture.
– Demonstrate prudence, sound judgement, and appropriate and timely escalations in management of all
types of risk (including fraud risk) applicable to the role.
– Promote and adhere to Vistari’s core values and ensure compliance with organisational policies and
procedures, collective agreements, and statutory employment standards.
– Maintain zero tolerance to bribery, fraud, and corruption, and ensure the immediate reporting of any
corruption or suspect behaviour that threatens Vistari’s reputation.
– Adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures and immediately report any safeguarding concerns.
– Any other related responsibilities that may be assigned by the Line Manager from time to time.
