Job summary
The Machine Operator – Boiler Operations operates, monitors, and maintains steam boiler systems to ensure
continuous, safe, and efficient steam generation for textile and garmenting production processes. The Boiler
Operator supports plant operations by optimising boiler performance, minimising energy waste, and ensuring
compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Key roles and responsibilities
• Boiler Operation & Monitoring
– Operate and control boilers and auxiliary equipment to maintain required steam pressure, temperature,
and water levels.
– Adjust burners, fuel feed systems, and valves to ensure efficient combustion and stable steam
generation.
– Monitor gauges, meters, and digital panels, recording operational readings in daily logs.
– Detect and respond promptly to abnormal sounds, leaks, or performance changes.
• Maintenance & Troubleshooting
– Conduct routine inspections, cleaning, and preventive maintenance on boilers, pumps, valves, and fuel
systems.
– Identify and correct faults in controls, feed systems, and safety devices.
– Liaise with mechanics, electricians, and engineers for major repairs or overhauls.
– Ensure boiler rooms and related areas are kept clean, safe, and organized at all times.
• Fuel & Water Management
– Monitor fuel levels and manage refilling, storage, and transfer operations safely.
– Perform regular tests on feedwater and boiler water, ensuring compliance with treatment specifications.
– Maintain water chemistry standards to prevent scaling, corrosion, and thermal inefficiencies.
– Record daily fuel consumption and calculate efficiency ratios for review.
• Documentation & Reporting
– Maintain accurate records of steam pressure, temperature, fuel usage, and maintenance activities.
– Prepare daily operational and maintenance reports for review by the Supervisor.
– Report deviations, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns promptly.
– Support data collection for energy management and environmental audits.
• Safety, QHSE & Compliance
– Operate boilers strictly in compliance with Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) procedures
and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) guidelines.
– Use correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensure fire safety equipment is in place and
functional.
– Follow emergency shutdown and fire prevention protocols during critical conditions.
– Maintain the boiler area in line with 5S principles: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardise, and Sustain.
– Support compliance with ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management)
standards.
– Report any unsafe acts, near misses, or environmental incidents immediately.
• Coordination & Continuous Improvement
– Coordinate with production and maintenance teams to ensure steady steam supply and energy
efficiency.
– Suggest improvements to reduce energy consumption, downtime, and emissions.
– Participate in safety talks, technical training, and skill development programs.
– Promote teamwork, communication, and continuous learning within the utilities section.
• Compliance with Vistari’s Corporate Systems
– Apply the highest standards of internal controls and risk management practices and behaviours and
embed a positive risk and control culture.
– Demonstrate prudence, sound judgement, and appropriate and timely escalations in management of all
types of risk (including fraud risk) applicable to the role.
– Promote and adhere to Vistari’s core values and ensure compliance with organisational policies and
procedures, collective agreements, and statutory employment standards.
– Maintain zero tolerance to bribery, fraud, and corruption, and ensure the immediate reporting of any
corruption or suspect behaviour that threatens Vistari’s reputation.
– Adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures and immediately report any safeguarding concerns.
– Any other related responsibilities that may be assigned by the Line Manager from time to time.
