Job Description

Job summary
The Carpenter constructs, repairs, and maintains wooden and related structures, fixtures, and fittings within the
factory and production areas. S/he supports operational efficiency, workplace safety, and facility upkeep by
ensuring high-quality, durable, and compliant carpentry works in line with engineering and Quality, Health,
Safety, and Environment (QHSE) standards.
Key roles and responsibilities
• Construction & Installation
– Measure, cut, assemble, and install wooden frameworks, doors, windows, cabinets, partitions, and other
fittings according to specifications, blueprints, or work instructions.
– Build and erect frameworks for factory extensions, utility enclosures, and interior works.
– Prepare cutting lists, working drawings, and bills of materials for supervisor approval before fabrication.
– Perform joinery, finishing, and fitting works ensuring precision and durability.
• Maintenance & Repair
– Inspect and repair damaged woodwork, furniture, fixtures, and fittings within plant buildings and offices.
– Replace or reinforce defective parts, doors, or frames to maintain functionality and safety.
– Conduct preventive maintenance on wooden installations to prevent deterioration and extend service
life.
– Support urgent repairs that may affect production or staff safety.
• Material & Equipment Handling
– Select appropriate materials based on job requirements to ensure quality and minimize waste.
– Operate woodworking machines, drills, saws, and hand tools safely and efficiently.
– Maintain proper inventory of carpentry materials, consumables, and equipment.
– Ensure safe storage and handling of tools and materials.
• Safety, QHSE & Housekeeping
– Adhere to all QHSE procedures during carpentry operations.
– Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times when operating tools or machines.
– Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard-free work area in line with 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine,
Standardise, Sustain).
– Manage wood dust and waste safely, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO
14001 (Environmental Management) standards.
– Report unsafe conditions, near misses, or injuries immediately to the supervisor.
– Support continuous improvement initiatives in workplace safety and energy/material conservation.
• Coordination, Documentation & Reporting
– Collaborate with maintenance teams (masons, welders, electricians, plumbers) to complete joint
projects efficiently.
– Record details of work completed, materials used, and time spent on assigned tasks.
– Advise the Utilities Supervisor on material requirements and design modifications.
– Participate in safety meetings, maintenance reviews, and skill development sessions.
• Compliance with Vistari’s Corporate Systems
– Apply the highest standards of internal controls and risk management practices and behaviours and
embed a positive risk and control culture.
– Demonstrate prudence, sound judgement, and appropriate and timely escalations in management of all
types of risk (including fraud risk) applicable to the role.
– Promote and adhere to Vistari’s core values and ensure compliance with organisational policies and
procedures, collective agreements, and statutory employment standards.
– Maintain zero tolerance to bribery, fraud, and corruption, and ensure the immediate reporting of any
corruption or suspect behaviour that threatens Vistari’s reputation.
– Adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures and immediately report any safeguarding concerns.
– Any other related responsibilities that may be assigned by the Line Manager from time to time
